T-Mobile Hotspot Data Limits Explained (2026)
T-Mobile's unlimited phone plans follow the same pattern as Verizon and AT&T: data used on the phone itself is unlimited, while hotspot data (sharing the connection with a laptop, tablet or another phone) has its own, smaller high-speed allowance. Once that allowance is used, hotspot keeps working at a lower speed until the next billing cycle.
What T-Mobile's hotspot allowance is
| Plan | High-speed hotspot | After that |
|---|---|---|
| Experience Beyond | 250 GB/month | Unlimited at 600 Kbps ("3G speeds") |
| Experience More | 60 GB/month | Unlimited at 600 Kbps ("3G speeds") |
| Essentials / Essentials Saver | No high-speed hotspot allowance listed | Hotspot at 3G-level speeds |
Checked September 2026, based on T-Mobile's April 2025 Experience plan announcement. Treat the table as a snapshot and confirm the numbers for your line in the T-Life app, since allowances change between plan revisions.
600 Kbps is enough for email, messaging and light browsing, but below what a video call, a cloud sync or a large download usually needs. That is why a T-Mobile hotspot can work well for weeks and then feel much slower near the end of a busy month.
UScellular customers are now T-Mobile customers
T-Mobile closed its purchase of UScellular's wireless operations on August 1, 2025. UScellular customers were told they could stay on their existing plans or move to a T-Mobile unlimited plan without switching costs. If you have moved, the T-Mobile allowances above apply to you. If you are still on a legacy UScellular plan, its own hotspot allowance applies instead, see our US Cellular hotspot guide.
How to check your T-Mobile hotspot usage
- T-Life app T-Mobile's support pages point to the T-Life app for usage: open the app, pick your line and look at its data usage, where smartphone Mobile HotSpot usage is shown. T-Mobile notes that usage is displayed in Pacific Time and usually updates about every two hours, so a very recent session may not show up yet.
- Your phone's own counter Android's hotspot or data usage screen, or Settings → Cellular on iPhone, gives a live estimate.
For other carriers, see how to check if your hotspot is really unlimited.
Official options
- Move to a plan with a larger hotspot allowance if you tether every day.
- Check the T-Life app for hotspot add-ons available on your plan.
- Wait for your billing cycle to reset, and use Wi-Fi for large downloads in the meantime.
Sharing mobile data between your own devices
If you want to share your phone's mobile data with a laptop or another phone, Tether Link Utility is an Android app that does this through a local SOCKS5 proxy. Data used by connected devices still counts toward your mobile plan, so check your carrier's tethering terms. For a comparison of the general methods (Wi-Fi hotspot, USB, Bluetooth and SOCKS5 proxy), see 5 ways to share your phone's internet with a laptop.
