On many Turkcell tariffs, data you share from your phone to a laptop or tablet (often called "paylaşım" or tethering) is counted separately from the data you use on the phone itself. That is why a laptop connection can slow down while the phone's own package still shows data remaining. This guide covers what the limit is, how to check it, and the official options when it runs out.

What the Turkcell hotspot limit is

Turkcell packages can include a specific allowance for hotspot sharing that is smaller than, and tracked apart from, the package's main data. Once that sharing allowance is used, tethered speeds are reduced for the rest of the billing period, even if on-device data is still available. Allowances differ by tariff and change over time, so the number that applies to you is the one shown for your own line in the Turkcell app.

Vodafone Turkey and Türk Telekom use a similar split between main data and hotspot data. See the Vodafone and Türk Telekom guides for their details.

How to check your remaining hotspot data

  1. Turkcell app or "Hat Özetim" on turkcell.com.tr Your line summary lists the remaining allowances for your package.
  2. SMS Send KALAN by free SMS to 2222 to get your remaining usage.
  3. Your phone's own counter On Android, look under Settings for data usage and the Mobile hotspot and tethering entry (menu names vary by manufacturer). It is useful for spotting heavy use, but the operator's figure is the one that counts.

Official options when it runs out

  1. Buy an extra sharing or data package if Turkcell offers one for your tariff. This is the fully supported route.
  2. Move to a tariff with a larger sharing allowance if you tether regularly.
  3. Wait for the new billing period, when the allowance resets.
  4. Use Wi-Fi for large downloads such as system updates or cloud backups on the laptop.

If you want to share your phone's mobile data with a laptop or another phone, Tether Link Utility is an Android app that does this through a local SOCKS5 proxy. Data used by connected devices still counts toward your mobile plan, so check your carrier's tethering terms.
